Montgomery County's new administrator, Jeffrey D. Johnson, had his first day on the job Monday.
A Narrows native, Johnson was hired last month to replace longtime County Administrator Betty S. Thomas, who is retiring at the end of this month.
Johnson, 49, was previously county administrator of Brunswick County.
Downtown Christiansburg is already familiar to Johnson. His first public service job was as a juvenile probation officer based here.
He has also worked as an administrator with the state Department of Corrections and administrator of Craig and Nelson counties.
Johnson says he plans to move his family here in June, after his wife's teaching contract is over in Brunswick County.
