ROANOKE ASKS HOW BEST TO GOVERN

Think city government is effective? Ineffective? A little of both, depending on the circumstances?

If so, then Thursday is your chance to offer suggestions on how Roanoke City Council and the administration can improve.

Council's fourth and final ``visioning'' workshop will take place Thursday at 7 p.m. in Fitzpatrick Hall at the Jefferson Center.

The topic is effective government, and what steps the city should take over the next 20 years to become or remain effective.

The workshop had been scheduled for Feb. 13 but was canceled because of snow. Three other workshops - on economy, quality of life, and education - have been held.

People who attend the meetings split into small groups, brainstorm on what is and isn't working, and come up with a list of suggested improvements. The groups then compare their lists. The city is looking for common themes.

The meeting will be open to the public at the Jefferson Center, 514 Luck Ave. For information, call 853-2541.
