Anna Duklauer Perl, 74, was saved from the Holocaust by German industrialist Oskar Schindler.
Anna Duklauer Perl, who survived the Holocaust as a member of Schindler's List, has died. She was 74.
Before the 1994 movie about German industrialist Oskar Schindler, Perl, who died Tuesday, rarely talked about how she was spared from certain death by working in Schindler's enamelware factory.
After the movie's release, however, she found that many people wanted to hear her story. She spoke to schools, gave newspaper interviews and was invited to the White House by first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton.
``Like for many survivors, it was difficult for her to speak, but she did,'' said Rabbi Israel Zoberman of Beth Chaverim congregation.
Perl worked in the laundry room of a concentration camp when she was chosen to work for Schindler.
``I did not want to go,'' she said. ``But my sister said, `Go with Schindler. There is life. You must go.' I didn't know what I was going to, but I knew it couldn't be worse.''
After the war, she returned to her hometown in Poland, met John Perl, another Holocaust survivor, and they were married. He died in 1989.
Anna Perl lived in Israel for four years in the 1960s before moving to the United States
