PUBLIC PULSE

Uniforms may be tried at a Pulaski County school if a parent group, church, business or other agency is interested in helping sponsor them.

Superintendent Bill Asbury told the Pulaski County School Board Thursday that the staff is interested in exploring the feasibility of uniforms in a school where the community might support it. Parents would still pay for them, but costs could be less than buying other clothing because the uniforms would be available at wholesale.

No school has been chosen for the experiment. It would depend on where a community indicated interest in helping to provide the uniforms, Asbury said. "We think we could swing it, if we had any takers."

"The offer's on the table with the school uniforms," board member Jeff Bain said. "I hope somebody takes us up."

Upcoming:

The Montgomery County School Board will discuss how to fund three new schools Tuesday at its regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the administration building, 200 Junkin St. in Christiansburg. The board has been deliberating the order of construction and funding of a new high school in Shawsville and two new middle schools in Blacksburg and Christiansburg. The board will also discuss the possibility of a public library to be built on the same land as the new high school in Shawsville.
