PUBLIC PULSE

Upcoming:

Pulaski Town Council may consider appointing a new member today at its regular 4 p.m. meeting, if its Human Resources Committee has a recommendation.

Council had previously appointed lawyer H. Lee Chitwood to the vacancy left by the resignation of W.H. "Rocky" Schrader but, because he was recently appointed as a General District Court judge, Chitwood was unable to serve on the governing body.

Christiansburg Town Council will meet at 7:30 tonight. The meeting includes a public hearing on water and sewer rate amendments and a discussion of a tax referral for elderly and disabled residents. The council meets in the Municipal Building, 100 E. Main St.

The Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library Board of Trustees will hold its monthly meeting Wednesday, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Christiansburg branch library, 125 Sheltman St.

The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors will hold public hearings on the 1997-98 budget and tax rates proposed beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday. The hearings will be held at Shawsville High School, 4719 Old Town Road, Shawsville. The budget public hearing begins at 7 p.m. The tax-rate hearing starts at 7:30. The board has advertised a 7-cent increase in the real-estate tax rate, though there appears to be little actual support for such a major jump among board members.
