CALDWELL, Carl K. Sr., of Roanoke, passed away Friday, April 4, 1997, after an extended illness. He attended Bluefield College, was a retired administrative assistant at Norfolk Southern, Past Master of the Bluefield Masonic Lodge #85 A.F.&A.M., Scottish Rite of Free Masonry, 32, honorary Kentucky Colonel, and a member of Preston Oaks Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle H. Caldwell; his father, Edward M. Caldwell; his first wife, Mabel Wooldridge Caldwell; a brother, Clarence L. Caldwell Sr., and an infant son. Surviving are his wife, Annette S. Caldwell of Roanoke; a son, Carl K. Caldwell Jr. of Sanford, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs. David (Darlene) Brown of Beckley, W.Va.; two stepdaughters, Kellie Miller of Nags Head, N.C., and Kimberly Allen of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Brian E. CASEY, Deborah Ann, 42, and CASEY, Sharon Yvette, 23, of Roanoke, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 1997. The unexpected deaths of mother and daughter has left the family and community stunned. Surviving Deborah Ann are one daughter, Felicia Brooks; two grandchildren, DaQuone Casey and Chante Casey; five brothers, Jerry Casey of Roanoke, and Marvin Casey, Larry Casey and Samuel Casey, all of Baltimore, Md., and two sisters, Cherry Ann Banks of Baltimore and Regina Renee Tisdale of Texas. Surviving Sharon are one son, DaQuone Casey; one daughter, Chante Casey, and one sister, Felicia Brooks. Many other relatives survive this mother and daughter. CHAPMAN, Garrett Levi, five months, of Radford, died unexpectedly Wednesday, April 2, 1997, in the Community Hospital of Roanoke. He was a beautiful, happy, and perfect baby in every way. He was a joy to his parents and everyone fortunate enough to know him. He will be sadly missed and joyfully remembered by his parents, Kenneth Raymond and Renee Wiley Chapman; big brother, Tucker Chapman; paternal grandmother, Virginia L. CRAWFORD, Ralph Lennie, 70, of Goodview, passed away Thursday, April 3, 1997, in a Roanoke hospital. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, and a retired employee of Southern States Cooperative of Roanoke and Troutville with 25 years of service. He was an employee of Ace Hardware at the time of his death. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lella Montgomery Crawford; daughter and son-in-law, DeEtta and Stan Reynolds of Roanoke; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Sheree Crawford of Roanoke, Tim and Vicky Crawford of Roanoke, Phil and Joyce Crawford of Moneta; stepmother, Mallie Crawford of Galax; stepsister, Faye Powers of Galax; stepbrother, Billy Shinault of Galax; grandchildren, Jason Maxey, Megan Ferguson, Jeremy, Bradley, Leslie, Justin, and Ashley Crawford; great-granddaughter, Courtney Maxey. Kendrick and Maggie Cassidy Kendrick. He was a former minister of the Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carrie Lucille Craighead Kendrick, and four children, Samuel D. Kendrick, Lisa Hill Kendrick, Sherry Kendrick and Cecil Leo Kendrick. McMILLAN Christopher Michael, 15, of Troutville, went to be with his Savior on Friday, April 4, 1997, from a Roanoke hospital. He was a member of the Botetourt Church of Christ, where he was active with the Church Youth Groups. He was a student at Lord Botetourt High School, where he played for the JV Soccer Team, and was a member of the Junior League at Botetourt Country Club. Christopher is survived by his parents, Linda and Danny McMillan, and one brother, Matthew McMillan, all of Troutville; his grandparents, Larry and JoAnne McMillan of Richmond, Dorothy Kazee of Richmond, and Paris Jr. and Ruth Kazee of Fredericksburg, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. METZ, Lucy Jane, 102, of Rocky Mount, formerly of Roanoke and Dayton, Ohio, died Wednesday, April 2, 1997, in Franklin Health Care Center. She was born in Franklin County on September 2, 1894, the second daughter of Thomas I. Metz and Mary Bishop Metz, and was preceded in death by her three sisters, Annie Mae LaPrade, Julia Brown, and Ella Perdue; and brother, Samuel Metz. Miss Metz was a member of the First Baptist Church, Roanoke. Surviving are nieces and nephews, Doris Brown Shea of Union Hall and Naples, Fla., Dora Goad Brown of Rocky Mount, Hilda Perdue Anderson of Roanoke, Carl and Iris Perdue of Moneta, Nancy Perdue of Richmond, and Johnnie and Mary Ann Metz of Glade Hill. TAWNEY, Curtis Marshall, 59, of 413 Oak Lane in Pearisburg, and formerly of Narrows, peacefully rested in the sleep of Jesus Thursday evening, April 3, 1997, at Giles Memorial Hospital after a strong and courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his friends and loved ones. Curtis was born in Giles County on July 7, 1937, a son of the late Douthat Tawney and Evelyn Meredith Tawney Martin; and was a stepson of the late Rob Martin. He was an employee of the Hoechst-Celanese Celco Plant. He is survived by his devoted wife and best friend, Violet Sizemore Tawney; two sons, Ricky Tawney, Pearisburg, and Bobby Hill, Troutville; two daughters, Brenda Perdue and Kim Cook of Narrows; five grandchildren, Amy Hill, Ricky Tawney, Brittany Cook, Ricky Cook, and Billy Cook; two brothers, Buford Tawney, Narrows, and Minor Tawney, Blacksburg; two sisters, Geraldine Lawson, Hampton, and Ruth Casper, Cincinnati, Ohio; and a host of special and devoted friends. She was a lifetime member of Melrose Christian Church, and has attended Solid Rock Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Jean W. Ramsey, Roanoke County; grandchildren, Ronald A. Ramsey and his wife Mary Anne, Roanoke County, Frances R. McGregor and her husband Rory of Roanoke County; great-grandchildren, Frank, Tim, Tonya, and David Ramsey, Paul and Sara McGregor; one great-great-grandchild, Clayton Ramsey.
