A mother and son were seriously injured in an accident Monday afternoon when their truck was clipped by a Blacksburg Transit bus as the truck entered U.S. 460, police said.
Blacksburg police said Betty Nguyen was driving a pickup onto U.S. 460 east from the on-ramp at Hightop Road when the accident occurred about 2:30 p.m. As the Blacksburg woman attempted to change lanes, the bus clipped the truck's left, rear side, which caused her to lose control of her truck. The truck landed on its side and Blacksburg Fire and Rescue workers had to cut the truck to free the woman and her 16-year-old son, Christopher.
Police charged Nguyen with failure to maintain proper control of her vehicle, driving without a license and not having a minor in a seat belt.
A nursing supervisor at Columbia Montgomery Regional Hospital said mother and son were treated and released.
