PHONE SEX CASE ENDS IN CONVICTION ATHLETIC DIRECTOR GETS 90 DAYS - SUSPENDED

The longtime employee of E.C. Glass High School resigned Friday and pleaded guilty Monday.

A high school athletic director pleaded guilty to having phone sex with a 17-year-old female student last year.

Frank Graham Murray, athletic director at E.C. Glass High School for more than a decade, entered the plea Monday to a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Murray, 49, made sexually explicit phone calls to the girl, arranged to watch her standing naked in front of her window and at one point engaged in ``a touching incident'' with her on school property, said Commonwealth's Attorney William Petty.

Authorities became aware of allegations of improper conduct between Murray and the girl in November, he said.

Circuit Judge Richard Miller sentenced Murray to 90 days in jail. The sentence was suspended on condition Murray resign his position.

Murray, who had been on paid administrative leave since January, submitted a letter of resignation last Friday. In a written statement, he denied having anything more than a teacher-student relationship with the girl.

Petty said the plea agreement will spare the student from further pain. Taking the case to trial would have forced the girl to testify, he said.
