ALBERT, Lily Margaret, 92, of Covington, died Wednesday, April 16, 1997. Funeral 11 a.m. Saturday, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Arrangements by Loving Funeral Home.

CHUMLEY, Marie Jones, 91, of Knoxville, Tenn., passed away Tuesday, April 15, 1997, in Roanoke, Va., at the home of her daughter, Patricia Chumley Sewell. Mrs. Chumley was the widow of Dr. Charles L. Chumley. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Charles L. Chumley Jr. and John Wesley Chumley. In addition to her daughter, she is survived by nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Wynn Curtis, Knoxville, Tenn. Graveside services will b e held at Greenwood Cemetery in Knoxville, Tenn., Saturday, April 19, 1997, at 10 a.m. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army. The family will receive visitors at the Chumley home immediately after the service.

COMER, Vance Edward, 68, of Lake Montice llo, Palmyra, died Monday, April 14, 1997, at his home. He was born December 3, 1928, son of the late Balford Vance and Leona Harrington Comer. Mr. Comer was a retired tele-communication technician from American Telephone and Telegraph Co., and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include one son, Alan V. Comer of Charlottesville; two daughters, Karen J. Stokes and husband, Donald, of Charlottesville, and Kimberly D. Epperson and husband, Glen, of Greensboro, N.C.; two sisters, Mrs. Lois Williamson of Roanoke, and Mrs. Edith Lawson of Moneta; two grandchildren; one stepgrandson; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 18, at Monticello Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Frank Forehand will officiate. The family will receive friends after the funeral service at the home of Karen and Donald Stokes, 716 Blenheim Ave., Charlottesville. Memorial donations in memory of Vance Edward Comer may be made to the American Heart Association, 3025 Berkmar Drive, Charlottesville, Va. 22901. DESHIELDS, Fannie Hope, (``Skippy''), 75, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 1997. She was the manager of Miller and Rhodes Tearoom for a number of years and in her retirement, she worked in the Children's Room at the Roanoke County Library. She is survived by her husband, D. M. (Danny) Deshields, Jr.; her son, Greg Deshields and his wife, Jackie; her daughter, Carla Shriner and her husband, Chuck; her grandchildren, Beth Leonard, Chris Leonard, Kim Fiedler, Ronnie Shriner, and Amy Lacy; a great-grandson, Camden Fiedler. ``Skippy'' always said, ``I want my friends to remember me in living, not mourn my death.'' Out of respect for her wishes, the family will not hold any public services. The family requests any memorials be made to the church or charity of choice in Fannie Hope's honor. The world has lost a wonderful lady; many people are better off for having known her, for she has touched their hearts and souls. DUNCAN, Mary Lou Gravely, 63, of Willis, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 1997, at her home. Surviving are her husband, Clinton Duncan, Willis; daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Chris Lucas, Willis, Lori and Steven McNeill, Pilot; sons and daughters-in-law, Clinton Dwayne and Nina Duncan, Gregory Paul and Lisa Duncan, Willis ; five sisters, Edith Viars, Dublin, Lucille Bond, Sylvatus, Nellie Viars, Evelyn Akers, Draper, Catherine Powers, Greenville, Tenn.; three brothers, Kern Gravely, Baker Gravely, Galax, Laythan Gravely, Pulaski; ten grandchildren; one great-grandson. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Rev. Mike Bond officiating. Burial will be in the Big Sand Cemetery. FORTE, Americo N., (``Rick''), of Marion, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 1997. Funeral 10 a.m. Friday, St. John's Evangelist Catholic Church. Arrangements by Barnett's Funeral Home.

FOWLER, John H. III, 49, of Mullens, W.Va., formerly of Blacksburg, Va., died Wednesday, April 9, 1997, at his home after a brief illness. He is survived by his parents, John and Helen Fowler of Mullens, W.Va.; and by his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry Neil and Frances Fowler; nephew, Neil; niece, Christa; and many devoted friends. In Blacksburg, he was employed by Ray's Restaurants and for 20 years he was employed by Norfolk Southern Railroad in Mullens, W.Va. Interment was on April 12 in Resthaven Memorial Park, Princeton, W.Va., with Episcopal rites, the Rev. Adeeb Khalil officiating.

FRANKLIN, Loren Maddrey, 98, of Roanoke, and formerly of Raleigh, N.C. and Charlotte, N.C., died Tuesday evening, April 15, 1997, in a Salem hospital after a few hours stay. She was born March 13, 1899, in Northampton Co., N.C., an d was the widow of the late Garland L. Franklin. Mr. and Mrs. Franklin lived a number of years in Raleigh, N.C. and later in Charlotte, N.C. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Victor L. Smith, Roanoke; four sisters-in-law, Martha F. Maddrey, Blanche F. Brown, Mary P. Franklin, and Louise W. Franklin, all of Raleigh, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday from Sharon Memorial Park Chapel, Charlotte, N.C. with the Rev. Greg B. Gordon officiating. Entombment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Commonwealth United Methodist Church (2434 Commonwealth Ave., Charlotte, NC 28205-5132). HILT, Robert Stanley Jr., 75, of Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at Bristol Regiona l Medical Center. He was born in Abingdon, Va., and had lived most of his life in Bristol. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ida R. Hilt, and was retired from Dixie Coca Cola Bottling Company. He was a member of Addilynn Memorial United Methodist Church and Highlands Emmaus Community. He is survived by one sister, Frances Trent, Roanoke, Va.; two brothers, Wilton Hilt and Harold Hilt, both of Abingdon; a special friend, Myrtle Everhart; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Addilynn Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Brown and Rev. Curt McKee officiating.. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. McFALLS, John Clifton Jr., 73, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 1997. He was born in Hollins, and retired from Monarch Foods. He was preceded in death by his parents, John C. Sr. and Agnes Lee McFalls. He is survived by his wife, Frances H. McFalls; children, Elizabeth Dooley, Alvina Gibson, Betty Powers, Eddie McFalls, Mark McFalls, Michael M cFalls, Annette Tolley; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ola Mae Hamblin, Agnes Hodges, Margaret Nisewander, Betty Jane Moyer; brothers, Charles McFalls and Richard McFalls. MORTON, Melvin Gene, 47, of 910 Harless Street, Christiansburg, died Wednesday, April 16, 1997. Arrangements are incomplete, and being handled by McConnell Funeral Home, Bluefield, West Va.

MOSER, Larkie 95, of Vinton , passed away Tuesday, April 15,1997. Born July 11, 1901, she was a daughter of the late Alfred D. and Kate Atkins Moser. She was predeceased by a sister, Pearl O'Neal; two brothers, Alfred Garland Moser and William (Bill) Moser. She was retired from the Puritan Mills and was a charter member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church from 1926 until 1996. She was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church at the time of her death. She is survived by a sister with whom she made her home, Lena Moser Scott of Vinton; two nieces, Frances Battle of Norfolk, Garlene Bocock and her husband, David of Roanoke; a great-niece, Tina Reynolds and a great-nephew, David Bocock, a sister-in-law, Gladys Moser all of Roanoke; and two special friends, Gloria Campbell and Diane McGuire. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 1997 with the Rev. Harold Uhl officiating. Burial will be in Fair View Cemetery. Friends may call at Oakey's Vinton Chapel after 12 noon Thursday.

PURSELL, Bryson Sr., 80 of Tampa, Fla.; died April 13, 1997 in Tampa. He was born in Piquaj, Ohio, he had moved to Tampa from Roanoke, Va in 1996. He was an Attorney for the Interstate Commerce Commission. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen and three sons, Bryson Pursell, Jr., of Lebanon, Ohio; Jeffrey Pursell of Virginia Beach, Va; and Keith Pursell of Tampa Fla.; one daughter, Deborah Pelletier of Sterling, Va; and ten grandchildren. Arrangements were handled by Florida Mortuary/Loyless Chapel, Tampa, Fla.

RICHARDS, Hal Lewis, 48, of Montvale, died Tuesday, April 15, 1997, at his residence. He was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on April 23, 1948, a son of the late Elliot Winslow Richards and Rita Blake Richards. He was an Air Force veteran serving in Vietnam. Hal is survived by his wife, Ella Richards, Montvale; four stepsons, William Saunders, Suffolk, Randy Saunders, Malibu, Calif., Michael Hurley, Jacksonville, Fla., Edward Hurley III, Montvale; a stepdaughter, Cathy Saunders, North Hollywood, Calif.; two brothers, Charles Richards, Grand Prairie, Texas, John Richards, Bay City, Texas; a sister, Jan Barrier, Alvin, Texas; 12 grandchildren. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 18, 1997, in Old Dominion Memorial Gardens with military graveside honors given by American Legion Post #16.
