PUBLIC PULSE

Upcoming:

* The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors will consider a proposal for a $15,000 analysis of the Christiansburg Middle School project when it meets at 7 p.m. Monday at the Montgomery County Courthouse, Franklin and Main streets, Christiansburg. Marsh Witt of Roanoke is examining ways to cut costs of either renovating or building three new schools in the county, including the Christiansburg school.

The supervisors will also hold a public hearing on amending the county's comprehensive plan map to designate 480 acres in Riner - including land proposed as a golf resort - as a rural expansion area. The land, currently designated rural and agriculture, is north of Riner along Virginia 8 and Five Points Road. Changing the designation would allow the Auburn Hills golf course rezoning request to proceed.

Also, the supervisors and commissioners will have a public hearing on a request by Ronnie and Jeff Wimmer to rezone 2.87 acres of land from agricultural to general business status so the father and son can build a new Pilot Mountain Grocery that provides for better gas pump access among other improvements.

Radford City Council will consider approval of a new pay plan for city employees when it meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Municipal Building, 619 Second St. The proposal is designed to reward seniority and address inequities in the existing classification and pay system. Merit pay may eventually be instituted, using the new pay plan in combination with a specialized evaluation process. Last week, council approved a budget of nearly $50 million and a real estate tax increase of 2 cents per $100 of valuation, in part to cover the new pay plan.

The Montgomery County Public Schools Health Advisory Board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the School Board Office, 200 Junkin St., Christiansburg.
