Mr. Harrell was born in Chowan County to the late Joseph and Mrs. Emma Bass Harrell. He was a retired rural mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member and Deacon of Rocky Hock Baptist Church, where for many years he served as a Sunday School teacher and church treasurer. He was a member of Oak Grove Hunting Club. He was the widower of Bessie Leary Harrell.
{REST} Survivors include one daughter, Marion H. Goodman of Edenton; three sons, Robert S. Harrell and Rodney T. Harrell Jr., both of Edenton, and J. Scott Harrell of Edenton and Hatteras; one sister, Eva H. Privott of Edenton; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in Rocky Hock Baptist Church by the Rev. Donald Wagner. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery, Edenton, with Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, handling arrangements. Friends may join the family at the home of his daughter, Route 1, Box 361, Edenton.
