Mrs. Nance was born in Walterboro, S.C. She retired several years ago from Norfolk city schools after more than 30 years of service. She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, the N.A.A.C.P., Woman's Club, Better Garden Club of Huntersville, Salvation Army, and Brambleton Senior Citizens. She was the daughter of the late Amelia Gates and John S. Gates.
{REST} Survivors include grandchildren, Lisa Nance and Pamela N. Dorsey; great-grandchildren, Mariel and Raymond Dorsey and Timothy F. Nance; grandson-in-law, Calvin Dorsey; daughter-in-law, Doris Nance; and goddaughter, Thelma Moore.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Tuesday at First United Presbyterian Church, 745 E. 29th St., Norfolk, by Chaplain Wilbur Douglass and Rev. O.J. Wynn. Burial will be in Hampton National Cemetery, Hampton, Va. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Family and friends will assemble at Hale Funeral Home at 11:15 for the procession to the church.
