He was born in Merritt, N.C., and had retired as a shipwright from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 30 years of service. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Carpenter's Union. He was preceded in death by a son, Julias ``Pete'' Martin.
{REST} He is survived by his wife, Cleo C. Martin; one stepdaughter, Myrtle Lee Johnson of Portsmouth; two stepsons, James ``Bo'' Simmons and Roderick Simmons, both of Chesapeake; one brother, Ellis Martin of Merritt, N.C.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Ralph Horn. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home today from 7 to 8 p.m. and at the residence at all other times.
