Mr. Holmes was a native of Norfolk and the son of the late Andrew and Annie Small Holmes. He had worked for 25 years with Unifirst Corp. as a route salesman. His most recent occupation was with Realty Specialists as a sales associate. He was a member of Mount Herman Baptist Church, Norfolk.
{REST} Survivors include his wife, Myrtle R. Holmes of the home; two daughters, Marjorie R. McNeill of Godwin, N.C., and Esther Holmes Crawford of Norfolk; four sons, Eugene L. Holmes Jr. of Texas, Donald R. Holmes of Germany, Lessell Holmes of Norfolk and Bruce L. Holmes of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Esther Warren of New York, Virginia Williams of Chesapeake and Valam Bacchus of Chesapeake; three brothers, Charles Holmes and Andrew Holmes, both of New York, and Nathaniel Holmes of Norfolk; 10 grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in First Pentecostal United Holiness Church of America, 1434 Wilson Road, Norfolk, by the Rev. A. Ray Rouson Sr. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be held today from 2 to 8 p.m. in Riddick Funeral Service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m.
