He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a retired surveyor from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 40 years of service. He was a member and usher of United Baptist Church, Shoulders Hill, Suffolk, Va.; president of the Ebony Heights Civic League; a U.S. Army veteran; a member of the Portsmouth Demcratic Committee; and a member of the Central Civic League.
{REST} He is survived by his wife, Alma S. Estwick; four daughters, Jacquelyn Adams of Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Angela Hill of Portsmouth, Va., Annette Moore of Norfolk, and Amy McCrimmon of Maxton, N.C.; three sons, Anthony Mitchell and Andre Mitchell, both of Portsmouth, and Arthur Mitchell Jr. of Windfall, N.C.; and 10 grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Union Baptist Church by the Rev. C.V. Russell Sr. Burial will be in Meadwbrook Memorial Gardens with military honors. Viewing will be at Corprew Funeral Home at noon today. The body will be taken to the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
