Mrs. Powell was born in Alexandria, Va., and formerly worked with the Internal Revenue Service and was also a former owner and operator of the Bel-Aire Motel. She was a member of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church in Alexandria, Va., and Duck Woods Country Club. She was the daughter of the late Robert I. and Dorothy Penn Clarke Sr., and the wife of Harry D. Powell of Kitty Hawk.
{REST} Besides her husband, surviving are five daughters, Terry P. Johnson of Virginia Beach, Susan P. Hill of Cary, N.C., Cyndy P. Winstead of Kill Devil Hills, Ginny P. England of Richmond, Va., and Beth P. Selby of Manteo; one son, Robert M. Powell of Wilmington, N.C.; three sisters, Barbara C. Owens of Casey, S.C., Mary Lou C. Evans and Terry C. Desliau, both of Alexandria, Va.; two brothers, Robert I. Clarke Jr. or Alexandria, Va., and Charles C. Clarke of Arlington, Tex.; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Andrew's by the Sea Episcopal Church by the Rev. H. Milton Cole Jr. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Dare County Hospice program. Twiford Colony Chapel, Manteo, is handling arrangements.
