Two lifeguards are being recruited and will be on duty no later than the July 4 weekend, U.S. Rep. Martin Lancaster said Friday.
{REST} The lifeguards will roam the beaches in a vehicle.
Earlier this spring, the National Park Service said that a lack of funds would force the elimination of lifeguards on places such as Ocracoke. Numerous residents and officials objected, and Cape Hatteras National Park Superintendent Tom Hartman told Lancaster that there would be lifeguards on Ocracoke this summer.
