Chesapeake residents, ages 12-18, without cars or driver's licenses who need rides to such far-flung summer destinations as the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, Harbor Park and Waterside in Norfolk or any of the malls that dot the South Hampton Roads landscape may want to take advantage of TRT's new Summer Youth Pass.
{REST} The pass, which sells for $35, will enable the bearer to unlimited use of any TRT bus, Maxi-Ride, trolley or ferry (except tours or festival shuttles) throughout the summer until Labor Day, Sept. 5.
According to TRT officials, this pass will be of particular benefit to those teens who need transportation to summer jobs, summer school or summer recreational sites. Parents need not be around to act as taxi services for their teenage children during June, July and August.
``We are excited about the opportunity to expose younger people to public transit so that they learn it's a safe, convenient, fun and affordable way to travel,'' TRT Chairman Robert Fentress said.
As an added benefit, the pass is good for discounts at AMC Theatres, Ocean Breeze Fun Park, and for Nauticus tickets and free drinks at McDonald's restaurants.
The Summer Youth Pass, resembling a colorful wallet-sized credit card, is available at all area Farm Fresh stores, the TRT office at 1550 Monticello Ave. in Norfolk and the TRT Mobile Sales Outlet.
For more information, call the TRT office at 640-6300.
