ELIZABETH RIVER'S U-13 TEAM HAS WINNING SEASON

{LEAD} The Elizabeth River Soccer Club U-13 team completed its most successful season, finishing with a 14-2-2 record as the Warriors claimed a championship and runner-up finish in two tournaments.

The Warriors won the SEVYSA End-of-Season Tournament at Lake Taylor and took runner-up honors in the Crestar Classic at Roanoke.

{REST} Josh Lashbrook scored twice and Ryan Goble once in a 3-1 opening victory at Lake Taylor over the Lafayette Admirals.

In the second game the Warriors upended tournament favorite Aztec Redmen of Newport News, 3-2, with goals by Michael Bright, Sean Warren and Lashbrook.

The Warriors then downed the Atlantic Blazers, 4-1, to move into the final. Goals were scored by Stevie Hughes, Goble, Bright and Lashbrook.

In the final, ERSC and the Gloucester Flames battled to a scoreless tie in regulation. In overtime Warren took the ball from midfield down the left side and lofted a shot from just outside the 18 into the upper right corner of the goal for the only score of the match.

At Roanoke the Warriors downed the Charlottesville Express, 4-1, with goals from Lashbrook, Hughes, Goble and Andy Ganey. In the second game the Warriors topped Charlotte (N.C.) United White, 3-0, with Goble scoring twice and Bright once. Scott Shumate and Ganey shared keeper duties in the shutout. Warren scored twice in a 2-2 tie with the Cary (N.C.) Capital Kicks.

ERSC then lost a 1-0 decision to Charlotte United Red in the final with the only goal coming with three minutes left in the match.

\ BOWLING: The Golden Corral Eastern Regional Professional Bowlers Tour will come to Pinboy's of Chesapeake June 17-19.

About 200 bowlers are expected to compete in the regional tour.

A pro-am will be held on Friday, offering a complete family vacation as a feature prize. Shifts will be at 5:30, 7:30 and 9:30 p.m.

The pros will bowl as partners of the amateurs but will not receive prizes.

The two-day main tournament will begin on Saturday at 8 a.m.

Entry fee in the regional is $185 and information can be obtained by calling Willie Mitcham at 436-4444.

\ BLUE & GOLD CAMPS: The fourth annual Blue and Gold volleyball camp will be held Aug. 8-12, and the third annual Blue and Gold basketball camp will be held Aug. 15-19, at Western Branch Middle School. Both camps run from 9 a.m. until noon and are open to girls ages 10 to 14. Each camp features CAP, ACEP and National Strength and Conditioning Association certified instructors. Camp activities include fundemental station work, camper video sessions, team play, games and prizes. The cost of each is $70 per camper. All applications and deposits must be received by July 1. \ WRESTLING: Catholic High School will hold a wrestling camp June 20-24 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. for ages 7-17. The cost is $65. For more information, call 467-2881.

\ HITTING SCHOOL: Bobby McKinney, a professional scout for the Pittsburgh Pirates, will hold a hitting clinic on the following dates: June 6-10; June 13-17; June 20-24 at 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. for ages 10-13 and 10 a.m. until noon for ages 14-17. Cost is $65. Each player will receive 10 hours of hands-on extensive instruction in the art of hitting and baseball offense, a camp T-shirt, personal evaluation and a video tape analysis.
