GOOD WEATHER BEING PROMISED FOR TODAY'S ANNUAL BAY SWIM

{LEAD} Good weather is predicted today for the 13th annual Chesapeake Bay Swim, which has been marred over the past three years by the heart attack death of one racer and rough water that caused many swimmers to be plucked from the bay.

``It's supposed to be absolutely gorgeous and sunny - partly cloudy in the 80s with low wind, which is obviously very important because it could have an adverse effect on tidal conditions,'' race director Chuck Nabit said.

{REST} Last year, a Laurel man died of a heart attack suffered shortly after starting the race. But the conditions at the time were good and there were no other major problems.

During the 1991 and 1992 swims, the grueling 4 1/2 mile race under the Bay Bridge from the Sandy Point State Park near Annapolis to the Eastern Shore was marred by high waves and winds, causing organizers to rescue many swimmers.
