RONALD RAY WHEATLEY

{LEAD} Ronald Ray Wheatley, 56, retired Navy Chief, passed away June 10, 1994, in Portsmouth Naval Hospital.

Mr. Grandy served in the Vietnam War from June 19, 1967, through July 16, 1968, and he retired February 15, 1974, as a Chief Petty Officer (BMC) after serving his country for 20 years. His medals awarded were the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, Vietnam Campaign Good Conducts, NUC Ribbon Bar, Combat Action Ribbon and Facsimile of Citation.

{REST} By his side at the time of his passing were his wife, Carolyn Wheatley; his children, David Fronius of Grandy, Robin Bateman of Virginia Beach and George Fronius of Hudson, N.C., and Kim McIntosh of Xenia, Ohio; his mother, Elizabeth Smith of DuQuoln, Ill.; and a sister, Betty Trudeau of Corona, Calif. Survivors also include a brother, Dr. Jerry Smith of Palm Harbor, Fla.; and four grandsons. He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorial services will be conducted at Little Creek Amphibious Base Chapel on Wednesday at 2 p.m. A Naval Burial will be performed at sea.
