CASH HEADLINES ARTS ROSTER

{LEAD} A CONCERT BY country legend Johnny Cash will anchor the 1994-95 Tidewater Performing Arts Society season. The roster of artists, announced Wednesday, also includes critically acclaimed dance companies, gospel and jazz groups.

Cash, who at 62 has found a young audience with his spare solo album ``American Recordings,'' will appear Feb. 3 at Chrysler Hall.

{REST} The season opens with clarinetist Don Byron and his klezmer band at the Virginia Beach Pavilion Theater on Sept. 24. Their album ``Don Byron Plays the Music of Mickey Katz'' was recognized as one of the top records of 1993 by The Virginian-Pilot and The Ledger Star.

The New York-based Shapiro & Smith dance company will appear at the Wells Theatre on Oct. 23. The six-member group is led by two former members of Nikolais & Murray Louis Dance.

Daniel Ezralow, a dancer who has performed for the arts society as a member of the company ISO, will appear with his own ensemble at the Harrison Opera House on March 18.

The season concludes with gospel greats the Mighty Clouds of Joy, who have won six Grammy Awards in their 35-year career. They will perform at the Pavilion Theater on April 29.

Season tickets are on sale at $87, $78 and $69. Single tickets go on sale Sept. 1. To order, call 627-2314.
