Mr. Russ, an avid bowler, retired after 30 years from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
{REST} He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Bertha; four children: three daughters, Rose Marie Atkinson of Charleston, S.C., Patricia Morgan of Portsmouth, Marilyn Fry of Richmond, and one son, Byron Russ Jr., also of Richmond; two sisters; two brothers; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
A Christian wake service and viewing will be at 7 p.m. today in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. A funeral Mass will be conducted by the Rev. James C. Griffin of the Church of St. Therese in Chesapeake at 11 a.m. on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation.
