PATIENT WALKS AWAY FROM EASTERN STATE

{LEAD} An 81-year-old mental patient who walked away from Eastern State Hospital has serious heart and kidney conditions that require medication, the hospital's director said Wednesday.

Lynwood Moore, formerly of Waynesboro, left a geriatric unit sometime between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday, John M. Favret said.

{REST} Moore last took his heart medication on Tuesday morning. He is also taking psychiatric medicine, but will not need another dose for about 1 1/2 weeks, Favret said.

``Mr. Moore may appear confused, but presents no danger to society,'' Favret said.

In his poor physical condition, Moore is at risk from the heat, Favret said. High temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday were in the 90s throughout the state.

Moore was committed to the state mental health system in 1982 after he was found innocent by reason of insanity in Waynesboro Circuit Court of malicious wounding and firing a weapon into an occupied dwelling, Favret said.

Moore is white, with white hair and blue eyes. He is 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs 166 pounds. Moore was last seen wearing gray pants, a blue shirt, a green jacket, and a dark blue hat.
