APPALLED BY EMPIRE

{LEAD} As a recent resident of Hampton Roads, I have been generally amused and sometimes amazed at the antics of local politicos. After reading two articles June 9 about Pat Robertson and his CBN empire, I can now add that I am appalled. How can a man of good conscience show he can afford to buy the Ice Capades for the entertainment of his viewers with one hand, while with the other try to build a tax-exempt ``retirement home'' for his wealthy cronies? His accountants may be in heaven, but to me it has the feel of the sleazy politics he normally rails against.
