DISTRICT 6 TOURNAMENTS ABOUT TO GET UNDER WAY

{LEAD} The District 6 Little League baseball and softball tournaments will get under way on Saturday, June 25, with competition for 10-year-old all-stars.

Olive Branch will host the baseball games and Cavalier Manor will be the site of the softball games.

{REST} The Major Little League baseball games and the Major and Senior softball games will be played at Bennetts Creek beginning July 9.

The Junior Little League and Senior Little League baseball games will be held at Wilson starting July 5.

Olive Branch won both of the 10-year-old tournaments last year. In baseball, Olive Branch defeated Cradock in the title game, 16-8. In softball, Olive Branch topped Bennetts Creek, 22-14, in the final.

In Junior Division baseball, Wilson won the championship with a 6-5 victory over Olive Branch. Olive Branch defeated Charles Peete, 15-3, in the Senior Division baseball final.

In softball, Bennetts Creek is the defending champion at both the Major and Senior level. Bennetts Creek beat Olive Branch teams in the title games in both divisions.

Little League district administrator Charles ``Butch'' Cuthriell said the softball assistant DA will be Trillis Hull. Cliff Molleen will be the ADA in Senior baseball.

Cuthriell said Hampton Roads will be the site for several state tournaments. The 10-year-old state softball tournament will be at Azalea field in Norfolk beginning July 22. The Big League baseball and softball state tournaments will be held at the Plaza complex in Virginia Beach, also starting on July 22.
