The youth-violence conference begins at 8:30 a.m. today at U.Va.'s Hampton Roads Center at 418 Pembroke Four in the Pembroke neighborhood.
{REST} It will last through Friday. Throughout the summer, the institute will travel across the state, stopping at five other locations.
Topics to be covered at the conference include school violence, cultural and psychological issues, intervention with aggressive youths, school prevention and safety programs, safe schools environment assessment, media relations and family systems.
Several states, including Florida and Wisconsin, have shown an interest in duplicating the Virginia Youth Aggression and Youth Violence Project, said Dyanne S. Bostain, program director.
``We are taking it national,'' said Bostain, who also directs the Hampton Roads Continuing Education Center of U.Va.
The goal, Bostain said, is to develop a foundation to deal with the problem of youth violence for the long term, both in and out of schools.
