WOMAN CHARGED IN FATAL STABBING OF CHESAPEAKE MAN

{LEAD} Lot seven in the Geneva Mobile Home Park was unexpectedly quiet when police and rescue workers answered a call to the trailer late Tuesday night.

When they arrived, police found that 55-year-old John Fish had been stabbed to death.

{REST} Police said Fish's 39-year-old girlfriend, Beverly Krawetz, was arrested and charged with murder in the slaying.

Police said officers had been called to the trailer at least seven times between October and Tuesday night.

Tony Torres, spokesman for the Chesapeake Police Department, said the calls ranged from a suicide attempt, to domestic arguments, to a drunken driver leaving the premises, to disorderly conduct by adults and juveniles.

Fish had been living in the trailer with Krawetz and her two children, ages 5 and 16, Torres said.

Tuesday night, as her 5-year-old looked on, Krawetz's 16-year-old son tried to stand between her and Fish, but Krawetz got around him, and fatally stabbed Fish once in the chest, Torres said.

The 16-year-old called 911 shortly afterward.

Fish was pronounced dead on arrival at Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth.

Police did not identify the two juveniles.

Brenda Daniels, a neighbor, said she had known Krawetz and Fish about two years. She said she was standing nearby as the 5-year-old recounted the stabbing to detectives Tuesday night.

``He said, `My mom and Fish were arguing, and she called my grandparents and they told her to kick him out,' '' Daniels said.

She said the 5-year-old told detectives that Fish took some belongings to his car, then returned to the trailer and was stabbed.

``I find it so shocking because I never seen him raise his voice to her. . . . I never seen him scream or holler or hit or nothing,'' Daniels said.

Police said Krawetz is being held in the Chesapeake City Jail without bail.

Krawetz's children reportedly were staying with friends and relatives.
