HONORS AND AWARDS

{LEAD} Amy Griffin, daughter of Wayne and Esther Griffin of the 400 block of Willow Bend Drive, has been selected to participate in the 1994 Miss Virginia Teen All-American Pageant to be held at the Richmond Marriott Hotel on July 2.

This event will select Virginia's representative to the 1994 Miss Teen All-American Pageant to be held in Miami.

{REST} In high school Griffin participated in volleyball, drama, choir and was selected for ``Who's Who Among American High School Students.'' She has studied at Tidewater Community College.

Griffin's sponsors to the pageant are Body Structures Gym, Hair Safari, Diane's Hair Design, Sonny and Debbies, Allied Rentals, Ron White, Tom Conway, Kathy Meigss, Earl Clark, Hair We Are and family members.

Girl Scout volunteers and sisters, Madeline McQuay and Ethel Robbin, were honored at the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast's 14th annual meeting in Hampton.

McQuay, an active volunteer for eight years, received the ``Thanks Badge,'' the second highest award and adult Girl Scout volunteer can receive. The Thanks Badge recognizes unusually outstanding service benefiting Girl Scouting throughout the council.

In addition to serving at the Indian River service unit, McQuay works to organize and support council events, including the annual cookie sale and Girl Scout Expo.

Robbin, a leader support manager for the Indian River service unit, received the Appreciation Pin for outstanding service. As a former schoolteacher, she uses her experience and expertise to inspire the girls in Scouting.

Dwight D. Moore, a 1966 graduate of Deep Creek High School, was presented the Paul Harris Fellow Award by the Bluefield, W.Va., Rotary Club.

The award is the Rotary Foundation's way of expressing appreciation for work in humanitarian and education projects. The award is named after Rotary founder Paul Harris, a Chicago lawyer who started the organization with three business associates. Harris and his associates called the club ``Rotary'' because members would rotate the meeting place among their businesses.

Moore, the 1990 Rotarian of the Year, is the director of Continuing Education at Bluefield State College. A Rotarian since 1987, he is currently the club's secretary and treasurer.

Moore is the son of L.D. Moore, retired principal of Deep Creek Junior High School, and Vina Moore, both of the 2800 block of Flag Road. by CNB
