COUNCIL SET TO APPOINT 3 SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS

{LEAD} After conducting interviews with candidates earlier this month, the City Council will appoint three people to the School Board on Tuesday. Thirty-five candidates tossed their names into the ring. The terms of board chairman J. Thomas Benn III, Leah Stith and Ralph Buxton expire June 30. Appointees will join the board July 1.

Benn, a quality assurance director at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and Stith, a special assistant to the lieutenant governor, are seeking re-appointment. Buxton cannot be reappointed because he has served two consecutive terms.
