Nanci A. Glassman of Norfolk has been awarded the 1994 American Lung Association of Virginia's Douglas Southall Freeman Award.
{REST} Glassman has volunteered for the American Lung Association for 12 years and has served as the state president for two years. She is also the president of Continental Researchand has twice been elected president of the Hampton Roads American Marketing Association.

Navy Seaman Recruits Allen Joyner and Rex E. Valencia recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Joyner is the son of Ethel R. Joyner of the 1000 block of Mission St. and Valencia is the son of Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer and Mrs. Redencio Valencia of the 200 block of Glendale Ave.
Six cadets in the Norfolk State University Army ROTC program were commissioned as second lieutenants at the annual spring commissioning ceremony last month. They are Brian Battles, Robert Herrold, Sherron Puryear, Ronald Reid, Frank Walker and Virgillo Wilson.
Air Force Airman Leandra L. Duquette, daughter of Richard O. and Violete M. Duquette of the 500 block of Summers Drive, has graduated from Air Force basic training at Lackland Air Force base, San Antonio.
Air Force 1st Lt. Kenneth T. Jolivet, an air traffic control operations chief and the son of Rachel Jolivet of the 300 block of London St. and Victor A. Ruvo of the 900 block of Armfield Circle, has been named manager of the year at Incirlik Air Base, Adana, Turkey.
Army Cpl. Rodney Johnson, son of Sheila A. Johnson of the 2700 block of Monrovia Drive, has been decorated with the Army Achievement Medal. Johnson is a cannon crewman at Schofield Barracks, Oahu, Hawaii.
Air Force Airman Sherry D. Reap, daughter of John and Sarah L. Anderson of the 2700 block of Hollister Ave., has completed the inventory management specialist course at Lowry Air Force Base, Denver.

Denny Wolfe of Old Dominion University has been appointed a regional judge for the 1994 National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards in Writing, a competition for high school seniors.
Lea Ann M. Douglas of the 900 block of Graydon Ave., was honored during the University of Delaware's annual Honors Day ceremonies last month. During the ceremony she was tapped for the Mortar Board, an honor society that recognizes outstanding scholarship, leadership and service, and inducted into Phi Sigma Tau, the national society in philosophy. by CNB
