No clear pattern emerged from the candidates' second set of reports on how much money they raised and spent, filed with the city June 15.
{REST} Certainly victory came to some candidates with more money. Paul D. Fraim spent more than $36,000 in Ward 2 and rolled over his opponent, James W. ``Jay'' Sherrill, who spent less than $7,000.
Yet Paul R. Riddick won re-election in Ward 4 although he spent just $11,000. His closest rival, Daun S. Hester, shelled out $28,000 in a failed effort to unseat Riddick.
Herbert M. Collins Sr. ran one of the cheapest winning campaigns, spending about $7,000. He even spent less than G. Conoly Phillips, who had no opposition but raised $29,500 and spent $9,300.
Councilman Randy Wright's report was not filed by the June 15 deadline. Campaign official Robert Hicks had a personal emergency.
Other candidates' finances are not listed here because they did not report contributions of more than $100.
