{LEAD} Mary Griffin Haynes, 91, of the first block of Fairway Drive, died June 29, 1994, in a Portsmouth hospital.

She was a native of Portsmouth and a member of Port Norfolk Baptist Church, Portsmouth.

{REST} Survivors include one daughter, Muriel H. Shumate of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Robert E. Royster of Chesapeake and Janet L. Riehl of Plantsville, Conn.; and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Port Norfolk Baptist Church by Dr. Ector L. Hamrick. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. today.
