A 16-year-old boy seriously injured his hand Monday night while handling firecrackers, police said.
The youth was taken to Virginia Beach General Hospital after the explosives went off in his hand. Karen Brayboy, a hospital spokeswoman, said wounds to the boy's right hand would require surgery, although he was reported in good condition.
The accident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. in the 2400 block of Huntsneck Trail.
