Rufus Linden Turpin, 71, of the 100 block of Hall Drive, died Monday, July 4, 1994, in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital.
Mr. Turpin retired from the U.S. Navy in 1964 and from the Virginia Employment Commission after 21 years of service in 1987. He was a gifted and skilled craftsman, engineer, agriculturalist and outdoor sportsman who located in the Chesapeake, Tidewater area in 1942.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Melissa; one nephew and two nieces.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Twiford Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel, Great Bridge. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
