applications had the years wrong in two cases. At the University of
Virginia, applications went from 5,887 in 1991 to 4,908 in 1994.
Nationally, the number of law school applicants (not applications)
went from 94,000 in 1991 to 83,300 in 1994.

There was an error in a caption Thursday with a story about the
sentencing of peace activists in Elizabeth City. Stephen Dear was
not accused or sentenced to jail, as stated in the caption. He was
shown speaking in support of his brother, John Dear, who was
sentenced to 7 1/2 months for his role in a December protest.
Correction published Friday, July 8, 1994 in the North Carolina
edition.
