TYSON CHALLENGES VIRGINIA ANTI-TAKEOVER LAWS

Virginia violated the U.S. Constitution by stacking the deck against hostile takeover attempts by out-of-state companies, an attorney for Arkansas-based Tyson Foods Inc. contends. But an attorney for WLR Foods said the laws used to fend off the nation's largest poultry producer are similar to other states' laws that survived challenges before the U.S. Supreme Court. A federal judge did not immediately rule on Tyson's motion to strike down Virginia's anti-takeover laws. This and other legal challenges stemming from the takeover attempt may remain undecided until the end of a trial on the matter in September. by CNB
