Ella Lowe Meekins, a longtime resident of Roanoke Island, died on July 12, 1994, in Virginia Beach, where she resided with her granddaughters.
Mrs. Meekins was born on Aug. 28, 1893 in Battery Park, Va., and lived for 50 years in the Sunnyside area of Roanoke Island. She was a member of Manteo Baptist Church, Clara Tarkenton Sunday School Class and a former member of the XYZ Senior Citizen Club. She was the widow of Roland S. Meekins and was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances B. Payne.
Survivors include three granddaughters, Kay Seagrave, Judy Powers and Debbie Williamson, all of Virginia Beach; four great-grandchildren, Ronnie Kaufmann of Terrell, Texas, Jeffery Kaufmann of Glen Cove, N.Y., Kim Barnette of Virginia Beach and Sheri Meekins of Wanchese, N.C.; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 15, at 11 a.m. in Manteo Baptist Church, Manteo, N.C., with the Rev. Bruce Warrington officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made to Manteo Baptist Church. Twiford Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake, is handling arrangements.
