THE VIRGINIAN-PILOT Copyright (c) 1994, Landmark Communications, Inc. DATE: Saturday, July 16, 1994 TAG: 9407150012 SECTION: FRONT PAGE: A14 EDITION: FINAL TYPE: Letter LENGTH: Short : 28 lines
I have been associated with The Virginian-Pilot since childhood. My parents subscribed to it when it was the Norfolk Landmark. I wrote an article for the child's section on the editorial page at age 9.
I have enjoyed it all these years. I have withstood all the changes all of you have made except this last one.
I enjoyed the first section; now it's been changed. The sports page has been revised. The editorial page has been revised. The obituaries are not good. Now the weather. News, with all the blues, reds and other colors and fine writing is now awfully bad to read, especially for the elderly.
Thanks for one thing: We do have the headlines, comics and crossword puzzle. I presume most of the readers (not customers) of the paper are older adults, for the younger ones don't have time to read.
Instead of us paying for a paper to read, we should be paid to read it.
