Dr. James R. Hager, a Zuni dentist and former county School Board chairman, was selected Monday as a temporary replacement for retiring Windsor District supervisor Steve Edwards.
Edwards, a Smithfield lawyer, resigned earlier this month when he moved his residence from the Windsor District to the Hardy District. He was first elected to the post in 1987.
The remaining four members of the Board of Supervisors unanimously selected Hager, 63, during a meeting Monday.
He will serve until November, when the county will hold a special election to fill the seat through December 1995, the end of Edwards' second, four-year term.
Hager was on the county School Board for 12 years, from July 1975 through June 1987. He was chairman from July 1976 through June 1984.
A West Virginia native, Hager graduated from West Virginia University and received his degree in dental surgery from the University of Maryland.
Hager said he has not decided whether he will run for the seat this fall. by CNB
