Willa Scott, a 61-year-old environmental activist, left Oakland,
Calif., in February on a cross-country campaign to protest vehicle
emissions. She biked and hitchhiked to Kennebunkport, Maine, where
she arrived May 1, and then made her way south. She arrived in
Virginia Beach last week and spent the weekend walking the Boardwalk
outfitted with her canvas signs of protest. She would like to see
automobiles banned and says she is discouraged by the Clinton
administration's environmental policies. So far, she says, she has
visited 47 states in recent years involving various causes.
