A 40-year-old woman is in critical condition after being doused with a flammable liquid, set on fire and locked in the bathroom of her Godfrey Avenue home Sunday morning.
Police said Jacqueline Cherry received burns on more than 70 percent of her body. She was being treated in the Burn Trauma Unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Alfred Parker, 43, her boyfriend, was charged with malicious wounding and arson of an occupied dwelling. He was being held in the City Jail Sunday night pending a bond hearing. A police spokesman said Parker and Cherry, who live together in the 1200 block of Godfrey Ave., argued early Sunday.
