NEPPIE R. POWELL

   Neppie Russell Powell, 85, of the 4400 block of Mallard Crescent, died July
24, 1994, in a local hospital.
   Mrs. Powell was a native of Sunbury, N.C. She had retired from the Norfolk 
Naval Shipyard as a personnel clerk after 35 years. She was a member of 
Aldersgate United Methodist Church and attended Churchland Assembly of God.
   Survivors include her husband, William Arthur Powell; a daughter, Jeannette
P. Ethier of Portsmouth; a sister, Virginia Wetherbee of South Hill, Va.; two 
brothers, Hubert W. Russell of Portsmouth and Marvin Jones Russell of 
Chesapeake; two grandchildren, Deborah Beshany and Timothy M. Ethier; and four
great-grandchildren, Ryan and Stephanie Beshany and Paul and Joshua Ethier.
   The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Greenlawn 
Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Larry O'Brien. Loving Funeral Home, Churchland, 
is handling arrangements.
