ILLUSTRATION: Photo
DREW C. WILSON/Staff
Capt. Walter Tate of Pamlico Beach, N.C., caught these two anchors
in nets from the fishing trawler Theresa Marie on a recent trip.
Tate, 62, found them off the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay between
Cape Charles and Smith Shoal in 40 feet of water. They were brought
to Wanchese harbor Monday. The larger one was made with a rare
wooden crossbar, 16 inches thick.
