A new ordinance passed by the City Council on July 15 does not affect landscape irrigation wells or other non-potable water wells. The ordinance only restricts the construction of drinking water wells on lots of less than 40,000 square feet unless the director of public utilities determines that drinking water wells on smaller lots would have no adverse impact on the quality of quantity of groundwater in the area.
Any resident wishing to construct a well for drinking water, landscape irrigation or other use is required to apply for a permit from the Health Department. For more information on well construction permits, call the Health Department at 491-5940.
