JOHN P. SIMPSON

Col. John Page Simpson Jr. died July 30, 1994, in a Buena Vista Nursing Home. He was born in Norfolk, Va. August 25, 1906, the son of the late John P. and Fannie Ives Simpson. He was preceded in death by his wife Lt. Col. Maribeth Turnbull Simpson.

A 1928 graduate of VMI, he was Cadet Captain of his class. Following graduation, he taught ``Rat Math'' at VMI and then attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. From 1934 to 1941, he was president of Eastern Wood Corporation in Norfolk, Va.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as Assistant Military Attache at the U.S. Embassy in London. For this service His Majesty King George VI awarded him Honorary Membership in the Military Division of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). He also spent a year each as briefing officer for General George Marshall and General Dwight D. Eisenhower.

He retired in 1968 from the National Security Agency, having served four years as NSA representative to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jean Roseberry of York, Pa., and Burwell Meade Fasciano of Reading, Mass.; one son, John Page Simpson III of Annapolis, Md.; one brother, Howard J. Simpson of Norfolk; and eight grandchildren.

Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery by Chaplain James Park. Arrangements by Lomax Funeral Home.
