Leland Alphonso Chapman, 69, of the 8900 block of Windsor Blvd., died July 31, 1994, in his home.
He was a native of Isle of Wight County and a prominent farmer. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church and was the church clerk and a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Tidewater Elks (NU)262, Fidalis Counsel (NU)18, Vicksville Hunt Club, ASC County Committeeman of Isle of Wight, member of Farmers Home Administration Board and a Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn C. Gray of Washington, D.C., Anita C. Dudley of Centreville, Va., and Darlene Tapscott of North Carolina; a son, Leland R. Chapman of Richmond; a brother, Joseph S. Chapman of Zuni; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Morning Star Baptist Church by the Rev. J.J. Ferguson and the Rev. Henry Diggs. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Elks rites will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Family and friends will assemble at the residence at noon Thursday. Pretlow & Chapman Funeral Home, Smithfield, is handling arrangements.
