Charles Herman Carter, Sr., 96, of Rt. 1, died Monday night, August 1, 1994, in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.
Mr. Carter was born in Gates County. A retired farmer he was a member and deacon of Gatesville Baptist Church. He formerly served on the Gates County Board of Commissioners and had served as its chairman for 20 years. He had served on the Board of Directors for the former Hobbsville Bank, now known as Centura Bank. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Nelle Welch Carter and a son, Charles Herman Carter, Jr.
Surviving is a daughter, Nell C. Willey of Hobbsville; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday in the Gatesville Baptist Church by the Rev. Ric Durham. Burial will follow in the Carter Family Cemetery, Hobbsville, with Miller Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Friends may join the family at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 pm and other times at the residence.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gates County Rescue Squad or the Gatesville Baptist Church.
