GROVER HOLDS COURT

MICHELLE GROVER not only won two different age categories at the Allied Colloids juniors tennis tournament in Suffolk last week, she didn't lose a game in the singles competition.

Grover, 12, blanked Dawn Harrell, 6-0, 6-0, to capture both the 14- and 16-and-under divisions.

A rising eighth-grader at Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, Grover went on to team up with Angela Jones to grab the 16-and-under girls doubles title. In addition, she paired off with her 10-year-old brother, Nate, to win the 14-and-under mixed doubles. Then she and Craig Rice combined to take the 18-and-under mixed doubles.

Her brother, Nate, also was a double winner in the singles division, capturing both the 10- and 12-and-under brackets. Then he and his 5-year-old brother, Barton, grabbed the 10-and-under boys doubles title.

The boys doubles play provided the most competition with two age brackets going to a third set. The 16-and-under division was cut short by the rain, forcing Scotty Holland and Marcus Artis to default to Arthur Bradshaw and Davy Slack because Artis could not return the next day.

Several youngsters played in two different age categories.
