Oscar Richard ``Dick'' Layden, 77, of Route 1, Box 250, died Sunday, Aug. 7, 1994, in Chowan Hospital.
A native of Perquimans County, Mr. Layden was a son of the late John Richard and Harriett Copeland Layden. He was retired from the Newport News Shipyard and also worked as a farmer. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Louise Lane Layden; two daughters, Carolyn Faye Bailey of Newport News and Joyce Bunch of Edenton; two sons, Larry Richard ``Dickie'' Layden and Walter Clyde Layden, both of Edenton; one sister, Edna Bass of the Great Bridge section of Chesapeake, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Henry, Sidney, Clyde, Joe and John Layden.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Cedarwood Cemetery in Hertford by the Rev. Donald Wagner and the Rev. Pat Creed. The family will be at the residence of Dickie Layden, Route 1, Box 288, Edenton. Williford-Barham Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
